We currently have an opening for a Furniture Designer, Engineer, and Estimator in our Seattle office.

Job Description: Furniture Designer, Engineer and Estimator

The Design Engineer Estimator (DEE) role is a pivotal role at Meyer Wells. The candidate will work in parallel with other design engineers in the same role. The DEE is responsible for working directly with our sales team, customers and project managers to create a clear and concise specification in the form of design drawings and written specification details. Upon customer approval of the specification, the DEE will estimate the cost of the project to ensure that it meets the budget range of the customer, and if not, may offer VE solutions that better match the budget requirements. Once approved by the customer, the approved drawing will be passed to engineering for conversion into a fully specified shop drawing. The DEE is the key customer advocate, who possesses a comprehensive understanding of the MW way of building. The DEE drives customer decision-making towards MW way of building. 



Industrial Design degree preferred. Architecture or Interior Design degree a plus.


3 years or more, professional service experience in direct contact with customers

3 years or more, professional design and engineering experience in a related field

1 year or more, experience in furniture fabrication or related field


Listens closely to customers and builders

Comfortable talking about money with customers

Clear, concise communication

Technical drafting

Hand sketching


Design detailing


Specification writing

Furniture design of primarily wood and steel components

Project management

Customer Service

Highly organized

Proficient at math


This is a technical role requiring fluency in a variety of platforms:

Microsoft office, specifically Excel

Solidworks / CAD

Sketchup Pro


Database / CRM / specification data entry

Familiarity with Kanban / agile workflow

Rendering software is a plus


Partner with outbound sales team to co-create product specifications for furniture design

Design furniture to suit both customer needs and MW capabilities

Manage project definition to optimize customer satisfaction

Accurately estimate cost for production and determine price to customer

Enter customer data, specifications and estimates into database

Create design drawings to hand off to customers and to pre-production team

Provide samples and drawings for approval by customer

Handoff to pre-production for final shops, fabrication and finishing

Follow up with customer

Assist product design and development of new furniture designs for seasonal product launches
